Commentaire :Guide for the readerThis history covers the first 50 years (1921-1971) of the Howard Karagheusian Commemorative Corporation, a charity established in New York by Miran Karagheusian in memory of his son Howard, and subsequently chaired from 1947 to 1999 by his daughter; Leila. The activities of the Corporation started in Constantinople as a home for the orphans of the 1915 massacres, and continued in la Gaudiniere (France) where they were moved. After 1936, it developed a wide range of programmes in Greece, Lebanon and Syria. Since Armenia's independence, a new emphasis has been put on socio-medical programmes in Armenia. The Corporation is now acknowledged both in Armenia and in the Near East as one of the leading welfare organizations in its field. *** The text presented here was written by its former director, Noubar K. Tavitian , between 1973 and 2000. This reprint reassembles in two books the 8 initial volumes (they were first distributed separately as each of them was completed. (The later volumes were divided into two parts corresponding usually to the geographical fields of activity (Greece and the Middle East). . A short overall table of contents is presented overleaf ( p.III).. The original detailed Table of Contents follows in pp. IV , V.and VI. Each of the original volumes is preceded by its own table, with the same details. RT Bruxelles October 27, 2004 |
